MUSIC PRODUCER AND DRUMMER ETTORE CARCANO ABOUT CREATIVITY IN COVID, MUSIC AND NEW MASCULINITY.

He started playing the drums at the age of seven and knew right away that music was going to be his life. Due to the heave indie-rock influence of the time, his path as a drummer seemed predestined. His passion, the beat, had just started to shape his life and career. Since then he seems to have had many lives when it comes to music. I asked him about how he does what he does, what multifacetedness means to him, and how he defines new masculinity.

You engage in many different music projects and artists of all kinds. What does the concept of multifacetedness mean to you as an artist and as an individual?

It is important for me to give different names to different projects. I use my name “Carcano” for Hip-hop, “On a Crac” for Electronic Music, play the drums and write for “Askers Dodge”, produce alternative hip-hop with “EXE”, write soundtracks with “Ultra-Violet” and of course use my real name “Ettore Carcano” for credits. The concept of multifacetedness only means that I’ve been in different places and learned different things. I hope as a creator I will keep on learning and open new doors when it comes to my creations. That involves meeting new people and giving them the space to share their knowledge. As a music producer, I feel like multifacetedness is the capacity to orchestrate different projects without loss of identity.

What does style mean to you and how do you choose to express yourself with clothes? How do you define new masculinity?

If I like it, I wear it. I don’t really know designers, brands and don’t know anything about modeling but I always get compliments on my outfits and my style. I enjoy women's fashion because it offers more variety, colors, and shapes. The only thing that women's fashion is lacking in bigger sizes, but that just points back at the societal pressure that women should be skinny and small...

How have you evolved musically and personally in the past two years?

For the past two years, I have been producing a lot with “Red Music” with whom I built a true friendship and sound identity. We produced eleven songs together and we have only just started. I have also been very invested in mixing and mastering, two things that also allowed me to push my production to the next level for me and the artists I work with.

The fact that the culture is based on many countries: The Turkish community since the 1960s; The Vietnamese community present since the 1980s to rebuild Berlin, and the Polish community for centuries. It´s a very cosmopolitan place. The passion for electronic music. The fact that life is pretty cheap for a capital. Refunding bottles. That's 6 things.
